Scalper Prevention Strategies

We wanted to share our ever-evolving approach to minimize scalping at Bonnie’s shows as it is a top priority for Bonnie that her fans get the best tickets at fair market prices and she doesn’t want her fans to get taken advantage of by scalpers.

We’ve had to adjust our scalper prevention strategy since Covid as one of our top approaches was to have those that purchased the tickets most often sold most by scalpers (the first ten rows at least) pick up their tickets at the box office on the night of the show after showing identification that matched the credit card used to purchase the seats. The scalper deterrent being that the scalpers would have to physically go to the venue on the night of the concert, pick up the tickets then meet the person who purchased them from the scalper. This many steps to getting the tickets into concertgoers hands reduces the appeal to scalpers.

Sadly, many box offices have changed their policies post-Covid and no longer offer box office ticket pick up, and often offer digital delivery of tickets instead. Therefore, we have worked with box offices to delay the delivery of the digital tickets in hopes that scalpers will have less time with the tickets to sell them on secondary markets. We appreciate patrons being patient with receiving their tickets closer to the show date and wanted to explain why we delay the digital delivery.

To make sure fans get access to great seats, Bonnie offers through her Fan Community a pre-sale with some of the best ticket locations offered. Join her mailing list to be notified when the pre-sales happen in advance of the public on-sales and to become a member of her Fan Community.

There are also two additional programs offered. At nearly every concert, Bonnie offers terrific, hand-selected seats to benefit local non-profit organizations working on issues of safe and sustainable energy, environmental protection, peace with justice and beyond. Some of these limited tickets (called Special Benefit Seats) go on-sale through bonnieraitt.comin advance of the general on-sale for each date.

As a way to compete with scalpers, for concerts where the ticketing platform can accommodate, another batch of limited tickets (called Seats for Change) are made available during the general on-sale via the venue’s official ticketing website.  Seats For Change compete with scalpers selling top tier tickets at above market prices by offering great seats through the venue’s official ticketing website with a donation going to charity!  Seats For Change is raising funds to support local and national organizations working on a variety of causes including sustainable energy, environmental protection, social justice, food & shelter insecurity, youth arts & music education and more.  To learn more about Seats for Change, visit: seatsforchangefund.org
